Virvell × Lever Integration

Setup, stage-triggered screening, and viewing results in Lever.

Virvell adds three AI-powered screening services to Lever — pre-screen interviews, voice reference checks, and background verification — that run automatically when candidates move to mapped stages in your pipeline. Results write back to Lever as structured notes on the opportunity timeline. No copy-paste, no switching tools.

Before you start

  • An active Virvell account. If you don't have one yet, sign up at virvell.ai or contact [email protected].
  • Super Admin access to your Lever workspace (you'll need to approve the OAuth connection).
  • Estimated setup time: under 10 minutes.

Setting up the integration

  1. 1

    Connect Lever in Virvell

Sign in to Virvell at virvell.ai/login. Go to Settings in the left sidebar. Under the Lever ATS section, click Connect with Lever. You'll be redirected to Lever to approve the connection. Lever will show the permissions Virvell is requesting: review and click Accept. You'll be returned to Virvell Settings with a green Connected status badge. Connecting through OAuth registers and configures the webhook in Lever automatically, so stage changes start triggering Virvell screenings right away. There is nothing to copy and nothing to paste.

Mapping stages to screening actions

  1. 1

    Browse stages from a posting

In the Browse stages from a posting dropdown, select any active posting in your Lever account. The pipeline stages for that posting will appear as clickable chips.

  2. 2

    Add a stage trigger

Click + Add Stage Trigger, then click any stage chip to populate the stage name field. Choose a screening action from the dropdown:

    • Pre-Screen Interview — launches an AI voice screening call to the candidate
    • Reference Check — initiates voice AI outreach to references on file
    • Background Check — runs Certn-powered verification

You can add multiple triggers — for example, Phone screen → Pre-Screen Interview, then Reference check stage → Reference Check.

  3. 3

    Optionally enable auto-advance

Check Auto-advance candidates to have Virvell automatically move candidates to their next Lever stage when the screening action completes. Leave unchecked if you prefer to manually review results before advancing.

  4. 4

    Save your mappings

Click Save Stage Mappings. The mappings take effect immediately for any future stage changes in Lever.

Triggering screening from Lever

Once configured, screening is fully automatic.

When a recruiter on your team moves a candidate to a mapped stage in Lever, Virvell receives the stage change event, identifies the candidate, and launches the configured screening action. No clicks in Virvell are needed.

The candidate will be contacted directly:

  • Pre-screen — voice call to the candidate's phone number on file
  • Reference check — voice calls to the references on the candidate's profile
  • Background check — Certn outreach via email for consent and identity verification

Viewing results in Lever

When a screening completes, Virvell writes a structured note to the candidate's opportunity timeline in Lever. Open the candidate's profile in Lever and scroll to the activity feed to see the note.

The note includes:

  • Candidate name, position, date, and screening duration
  • Summary of the screening
  • Key strengths and areas of concern (observational, never decision-recommending)
  • Link to the full report in your Virvell dashboard

To open the full structured report — including the conversation transcript, structured findings, and any Evidence Intelligence — sign in to Virvell and navigate to the candidate's record.

Troubleshooting

The connection shows Connected, but the Webhook active banner hasn't appeared.

Connecting through OAuth registers and configures the webhook automatically, and the banner turns to Webhook active once Lever confirms the first delivery. If it stays unconfirmed, move any candidate between stages in Lever to prompt a delivery. If the webhook still has not registered, open the Having trouble? section under the Lever ATS card in Virvell Settings to add it manually, or contact [email protected].

The card still says it is waiting to confirm the first delivery.

Lever requires a workspace admin to enable outbound webhooks for each event type as a privacy control. Most workspaces already have this on from other integrations, but if Virvell is the first integration in your workspace to use candidate stage change webhooks, it may need enabling once. In Lever, go to Settings → Integrations and API → Webhooks, find Candidate stage change, and confirm the toggle is on. Your Virvell webhook URL will already be listed underneath it, so there is nothing to add. Once enabled, the next candidate stage change confirms the connection within seconds. This only needs to be done once per workspace, not per posting or per integration.

My stage triggers aren't firing.

Verify three things: (1) the connection is Webhook active in Virvell Settings, (2) the stage name in your trigger configuration matches the stage in Lever exactly (case-insensitive), (3) the candidate has a phone number in international format (e.g., +14165551234) for pre-screens, or references with phone numbers on file for reference checks.

Notes in Lever look like text without formatting.

Lever's notes API displays content as plain text. Virvell formats notes with structural cues (capitalized headers, bullet points, separators) so they remain readable in the Lever activity feed.

Can I disconnect the integration?

Yes. In Virvell Settings, click Disconnect under the Lever ATS section. Virvell stops receiving stage change events and removes the webhook it registered in Lever, so nothing is left behind. If you reconnect later, connecting again registers a fresh webhook automatically.

How are screenings billed?

Each Virvell screening uses one credit from your plan. Background checks have additional Certn provider costs billed separately. See virvell.ai/pricing for details.
